Thoughts on Motherhood

I was a single mom for four days last week to my little friend, Tenley and boy… was it eye opening.

First off, kudos to you stay-at-home, working, parents to multiple children, and single moms (and dads) out there.

You are my heros.

I don’t know how you do it all! I worked during Tenley’s naps and after I put her to bed, had absolutely no privacy, didn’t shower for two days, spoke in crazy high-pitched voices, watched Veggie Tales three times in one day, and said, “What is that?” and “What do you want?” a billion times.

All that being said. I love little Tenley girl so so so much. I cannot wait to be a mother. I never even knew I could love someone so much that wasn’t my own child, but I do. It makes me excited for what God has planned for our family. Whether he blesses us with biological children or adopted children. How we’ll make jobs works, where we will live, what we will teach our children. How we will discipline them and embarrass them. Train them to make a difference in their world; to stand out and stand up for what they believe. How they will grow into adults, learn a trade or two and make a living for themselves. Then how they will, eventually, marry and start lives of their own. I can’t wait for all of it.

Bring it on.

  1. Having 2 kids close together is really hard. I don’t go out often, and when I do, I prepare myself for tantrums. But the blessing is not only getting to watch these babies grow into little people, but my kids genuinely love each other. The bond at only 1, and 3 is so strong! I love watching it!!

  2. Yeah it doesnt matter how many kids your friends have or what you hear and think until you have your own. It is very life changing, at least for me,….pretty much my biggest change to date. Watching Tenley for 4 days is a really close picture though and good practice. It is definitely more work than I ever anticipated. But the reward is overwhelming. Watching a tiny being experience all his firsts….first bath, tastes of food, encounter with a spatula….etc. watching him experience life is a trip. When they smile at you it warms you heart. And now my nugget…any time he sees me…he instantly wants and reaches for me. Its such an awesome bond. Your little meatball will be on his way soon. :)

  3. LOL! Isn’t it awesome to be able to take a shower whenever you want? I don’t know who Tenley is but she is lucky to have you, Natalee.

  4. My Precious Child, Darling Daughter, Piano Playing Princess, and our Merry Sunshine:
I am so proud of you and what an amazing gift you are from God to me and your mom, to your husband, your siblings, your extended family, your blogging buddies and all who know you! As a parent, you continue to teach me more and more of God’s love and goodness. I know when God chooses to so bless you and Alex, as I know He will in His time, you will gain an even deeper appreciation for the tremendous joy your mom and I have had in watching you grow in God’s grace, while you allow Him to work both in and through you. Thank you for sharing all God has shown you with us, for we are all blessed when you do.
I Love You With All My Heart,
    Dad
